What type of plant produces fuchsia and green foliage?

My boyfriend bought a bunch of exotic-looking plants cheap at a farmer's market and neglected to check what they were called. Some of the plants are all fuchsia, some are fuchsia and brown, but most are fuchsia and bright (some dark) green. Foliage appears velvety and is quite textured. They seem to grow pretty fast, and leaves develop all the way up the stalk. They also seem to spread. What could this plant be?
